Karst makes sustainable luxury notebooks, sketchbooks, journals and planners from 100% recyclable stone paper. Just like paper but environmentally friendly

Unlike regular paper, Karst stone paper is made without wood pulp and is 100% tree-free. The production process uses much less water and energy and the factory where the paper is made runs largely on solar energy. Another major difference with regular paper is that no bleach or acids are used in the production process, which means it is not harmful to the environment.

Water resistant paper

Karst Stone Paper products are naturally waterproof and resistant to exposure to moisture, making them ideal for outdoor use. You can also leave a cup of coffee next to your sketchbook with peace of mind. The waterproof nature of the material also means that the paper will not wrinkle, smudge or tear when wet, so your notes or sketches will continue to look great.

How sustainable is Karst stone paper?

Traditional paper is quite fragile, but Karst stone paper is super strong and can take a lot more. In addition, the paper has a smooth surface which makes it a real pleasure to write or draw. Every time I take notes, I am amazed at how nice the paper feels.

Is stone paper suitable for drawing on?

Absolutely! Karst paper is very suitable for drawing. Because stone paper absorbs less ink than regular paper, it looks cleaner and does not run through. For notebooks and journals I would recommend a simple ballpoint pen because it does not smudge, dries faster and it simply writes best. If you really want to draw, it is useful to go for the sketchbook version. With the 240 gram paper, these are even suitable for wet media.

Which pens are best to use on stone paper?

Karst's notebooks are very suitable for ballpoint pens and gel pens. As mentioned above, however, be careful with fountain pens and felt-tip pens. Depending on the construction of the point, you can see if you need to change your grip, angle or pressure. This is to prevent the paper from pressing through. Since the paper has no grain direction, it is not necessary to write on the paper with the same force.

Karst's notebooks are also perfect for erasable pens such as the Pilot Frixion Ball.

What is the difference between Karst notebooks, journals and sketchbooks?

Notebooks:
Thenotebooksby Karst are available in A5 format as hardcover or softcover and you can choose from blank, lined, grid or dot grid pages.

Journals:
These bookletsare made to be taken with you. The journals are slightly thinner than the notebooks and have a soft cover. In addition to A5 format, they are also available in A6 format to easily fit in your back pocket.

Sketchbooks:
This seriesdistinguishes itself by the 240 grams paper compared to the 144 grams paper of the notebooks and journals. The thickness and complete water resistance of the paper guarantee that nothing presses through the paper and that makes it possible to work with wet media in these sketchbooks.

Pencils:
For the creative person who wants to go a step further, there is also the KarstWoodless Pencils, of course made without wood. These pencils release up to five times more pigment than normal pencils. Specially designed for use with Karst paper, but suitable for all types of paper.
